To me, the tiny Church of St. Matěje in Prague 6 with a large gingerbread nativity scene annual traditional stop. It wouldn't be Christmas without him. In addition to being beautiful and incredibly laborious at first glance, the nativity scene is also the smelliest. Its history dates back to 1972, when P.Jan Machač came to the church, who provided for the mother of the academic painter Helena Horálková. She brought him a few gingerbread figurines for the ministrants, but they enchanted him so much that he preferred to exhibit them in the church. It became a tradition, and the figurines grew until there were 300 of them. Daniel Zítka, Mrs. Horálková's apprentice, is currently baking the nativity scene. In the church you will find 205 figurines in benthic costumes. After five crowns there are postcards with a nativity scene for purchase. The money is put in a box with an angel, who thanks for the crowns by noding his head. In addition, there is a beautiful mechanical nativity scene. You have the opportunity to visit the nativity scene on the 3rd, 9., 10., 16., 17., 23., 24. and 30 June 2004. Every 14 to 17 hours. church address is Prague 6 – Dejvice, U Matěje 198/2
