How to sew a leather bucket bag

With baggy handbags, it's like the bag's torn. But when you go for one, you'll find that your idea and offer of deals is often miss. Therefore, we have a simple guide for you on how to make a dream handbag.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAMy credo is when i have a purse, it's leather. No matter what traders say about the durability of modern artificial, eco and other skins, they will still get their asses. True leather still looks good after years, and with a set of colors on the skin and the right impregnation, it can be kept in great shape for a long time.

Looking at the price tag of a handbag in one of the fashion stores, you get the feeling that for the money leather must be…Make no mistake. Many popular brands often make from splitters. It is also interesting to conjure with the term Genuine Leather. If you think it's real leather, you're wrong. It's like leather recycled from a lot of ground residue and leather waste.

In short, I didn't choose a bucket bag in the shops, i.e. a purse-bag. Either it was bag material :-), or the price for a handbag that doesn't have proper closing and therefore I can't go to the subway and tram with it seemed meaningless. That's why I went into production.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThe first step is to have the right material. For leather, you can go to THE HANDYMAN in Florence, Prague, or to your favorite creative shop. Skins are sold on a scale in a typical shape that no one will cut off. Most of the time, they're not even big enough to make a whole purse out of them. You need two, but it still pays off. Just pay attention to the quality. The goat is in a lot of colors, but it is very soft and easy to damage. Too thick skin, in turn, can be a problem when sewing on an ordinary sewing machine.
I'm a well-known recycler, so I've decided to use the heap of leather I have at home in the form of all sorts of clothes. This time it was leather pants that no one in the family could ever fit in. When you search for chisels, you will find a lot of otherwise unwearable leather maxisuits in good condition and you will get enough material for a few crowns.

Since I like a handbag with lining with pockets, I started to sew more complex. It took me one afternoon. For starters, I mention that I do not sew the skin for the first time and I handle it very well on an ordinary Janome sewing machine. All I need are sharp needles on my skin and vlizelin. The skin likes to stretch when sewing. That's why the parts I'm going to staple are always ironed with a swallow. With an iron, the skin can also be straightened or the seams can be ironed when you need it. Through the vlizelín machine makes beautifully regular seams and it is not a problem to even sew multiple layers.

You need – leather, strap, engiling, buckle, punching pliers, sewing machine, metal D rings, carabiners, buckle, vlizelín, lining fabric, sharp cutting knife, ruler, hammer, metal pad, iron, leather strap made of solid leather from the DIY store

How to do it
1 11. Make a paper template or customize the size of your future handbag to your own requirements. The lower fold is in the middle. The jagged cut is brilliantly simple and will make a nice bottom for you at the bag. There's nothing worse than trying to sew an oval leather bottom. Try to have a handbag from one piece. If you happen to be like me, don't forget to add an inch to your seam in the middle of the bottom. If you don't have a large enough piece, sew up your skin. Do not forget about the trick with the vlizelín.

2. According to the stencil, cut the desired shape out of the skin with a sharp cutting knife on a firm and durable mat. It is better to take a metal ruler, because, for example, in a wooden one you can easily cut. According to the same template, cut out the lining, which will only be a fold shorter. I chose a coating on it called artificial cut leather. It's solid, it's easy to clean. Add a centimeter to the seams.

3. Cut the strips of the vlizeline and iron around the edges. Sew the basic shape of the bag. First the side sides, and then make the bottom. Sew up all the seams so that your purse doesn't pair. When you have more seams at the bottom like me, try to make them match you.
KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA4. Prepare a strip of fabric from which there will be pockets. One side of the purl, put it face down face down according to the picture and sew. Turn the bar and sew to the sides. Divide the seams into individual pockets as needed.
KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA5. At the lining, sew one whole sideboard, while on the other, leave a hole large enough in the middle for the hand and turning. Finally, make the bottom as with a leather bag.
KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA6. Put the leather and lining bag face down and sew around the top of the handbag. Through the hole in the lining, turn the purse on the cheek.

7. Apply the six-centimeter fold you have created with glue suitable for gluing the skin to hold the entire top line together.

8. Sew a hole in the lining on the machine or back stitch in the hand.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA9.At our DIY store, I had two two-centimeter long straps cut off from thick leather to a strap. It is better than stitching soft skin on a regular sewing machine. Either way, you need two 10-centimeter pieces for side rings. Fold each strip, put the D ring in half and make two-nail holes with punching pliers. After two holes, make on both sides.

10. Through the hole in the leather strip and in the purse, insert the rye, click and hammer with the hammer on the metal mat. On soft wooden, the bottom piece will deform. Another option is a saddlery screw, which you may know from the buckles of the straps with which you screw the loops. But in this case, they were not long enough to be pushed through all the layers. Beat all the yives

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA11. Use punch pliers to make punch pliers as shown at regular intervals of 12 holes per string 4 cm from the edge. If you do not want to use metal armhole, it is important to have both layers of leather edge glued together. I have the vaes, but I haven't given them yet, it would be too metal. But maybe later. If you do not have pliers, which in a decent quality cost around 400 CZK, you can use a punch from the set for the armhole. I do not recommend traditional burning with a hot knitting needle in this case.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA12. I like detachable straps because they can be easily replaced with short straps when I want a handbag in my hand. That's why I made the strap for the carabiners. First, measure where you want to have the saular. In the strap, make a hole in it with punching pliers, the other two on the yive to secure it. On the opposite, cut the end into the tip and make holes with punching pliers to change the length of the strap.

13. Fold the ends of the strap, insert the D rings with the carabiner and make holes for the yives. Hammer.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA14. Fasten the strap and stretch the cord, which is also easy to buy on meters for a few crowns where you took the skin and strap.

Our tip – If you do not want to do with lining, try a simpler option. Cut out the skin shape without a six-centimeter top edge. Then you just sew it up and make holes. Or leave the edge, glue and make holes. If there is no lining, do not forget to clean the threads.
