Mystery revealed: Why there are furs on winter hoods

Have you ever wondered why the hoods of very warm winter jackets are lined with fur? Isn't that just a fashion fad? It is not, but you can use the great features of animal fur only in polar conditions.

Wearing a fur-lined hood seems almost necessary these days. At least the manufacturers see it that way, and that's what the supply of deals looks like. True, they're usually just very bad artificial imitations, which are best to unrave right away. Hemming a real fur hooded warm jacket makes sense. But you only use it where temperatures drop well below freezing.

For a trip to Antarctica, a jacket with fur-lined rubber is worth it.

Why polar expedition members wear fur-lined hooded jackets, explained the experienced polar bear Václav Sůra. According to him, they got it from the Eskims. "I wear a hoodie when it's up, when it's not, I have no reason to wear it," he told Radiožurnál as a guest. "The fur that lines the hem of the hood protects my face around the perimeter." It's good not only against very strong winds. In extreme conditions, frozen ice crystals fly in their faces like sand in the desert. And it's the hairs that filter them. In addition, fur creates a protective microclime at low temperatures. Thanks to this exhaled breath, which has + 37 °C, for fractions of a second warms the face and especially the nose. There is no such thing in our conditions, although when walking through any city it looks like there are a lot of polar bears here.
